John Edwards’ Wife

This morning I wrote about the news that Elizabeth Edwards has stopped treatment for her cancer because there is no more than can be done to prolong her life.

Today, Salon put up this piece: “Elizabeth Edwards isn’t losing against cancer” with the subtitle “John Edwards’ wife may have stopped her treatment — but don’t call it a defeat”.  I hate the subtitle.  I’m not sure why she needs to be identified as his wife in the lead to the story.  But, at least, it’s the subtitle and her name is part of the actual title.

So, why, oh why, when Salon tweeted the story did they do it like this:

[Image reads: “John Edwards’ wife may have stopped her treatment — but don’t call it defeat.”]

“Elizabeth Edwards” has been a trending topic on Twitter for the last day.  So, why not just use the actual title of the article?

That, Salon, is a big misogynistic FAIL.
