Is it 1983? No More “Mr. Mom”, Please

What do you think when you hear the term Mr. Mom?  Other than Michael Keaton, obvs.

You think of a dude who stays home with his kids.  Which means that when you hear the term “mom” you assume that means a woman who stays home with her kids.  Because that is what moms do, right?

This is on par with people saying that a dad is “babysitting” when he alone is taking care of his child.

Just so you all know, Ben Affleck is about to become Mr. Mom.  I mean, he is really, really going to be Mr. Mom.

Oh My God.  What do you want?  A present?  Go be a dad already and stop acting like it’s a big fucking deal.  Humph.

  2. Yeah, I HATE that phrase. And the whole dad “babysitting” thing.

Because, you know, dad’s can’t possibly just take care of their kids. They must need to be asked (babysitter – which also, to me, implies some sort of compensation, rather than responsibility) or appropriate “mom,” implying that duties above and beyond those of fatherhood are being performed.
