January 8.

January 9.

January 10.

I apologize for any repeats but it’s hard to keep all of this straight. And I especially apologize for any stories that are not included (it’s not intentional – I’m just one woman, googling).

Pro-gun groups have found their protagonist: Melinda Herman, mom. Of course, “women are twice as likely to be shot and killed by intimate partners as they are to be murdered by strangers using any type of weapon.” And “access to firearms increases the risk of intimate partner homicide more than five times compared to instances where there are no weapons.” (those quotes via this link)

UPDATE from shooting yesterday in Little Elm, TX:

Family members said 33-year-old Bethany Shafer was with her estranged husband, 38-year-old Robert Shafer, signing divorce papers in her father’s Little Elm home Thursday night.

They were in the dining room while others were in the kitchen.

“All of a sudden we heard pop, pop. And Dave ran out of the kitchen and saw them and just screamed, ‘Oh my God. Oh my God. No. No.’ She was… she was a very hard worker, very conscientious and an excellent, excellent mother. And she adored that boy. He just loved her,” said Ellen Ward, Bethany’s stepmother.

Family members said Robert was upset over the divorce. The couple disagreed over who should raise their young son.

Police said they’ve gathered evidence that shows the shooting was premeditated.
